Helping Everyone Enjoy the Village Hall Grounds

We are very lucky to have such wonderful open spaces around Hughenden Valley, enjoyed every day by walkers, families, children, and of course our four-legged friends.
The Village Hall grounds are a popular place for dog walkers, and we want them to continue to be enjoyed by everyone. Unfortunately, we have recently seen an increase in occasions where dog mess has been left behind, meaning our volunteers have had to clean up after others. We know the vast majority of dog owners are considerate and responsible, so we’d like to remind everyone of a few simple guidelines.

We have taken inspiration from the National Trust’s approach at Hughenden, which is rated as a “two pawprint” dog-friendly location. This means dogs are welcome, with facilities such as dog bins and dog-friendly walks, but owners are asked to follow some common-sense guidance so everyone can enjoy the space.

At the Village Hall we are adopting the same principles:
Keep your dog under control

• Make sure you can recall your dog quickly when needed.
• Keep your dog where you can see them.
• Don’t allow your dog to approach other people or dogs without permission.
• Always have a lead available and use it when appropriate.

Follow the Canine Code
• Keep them close - a short lead may be needed around other visitors, wildlife or livestock.
• Pick up the poo - please always clean up after your dog. If there isn’t a bin nearby, please take it home.
• Watch the signs - follow any local notices about where dogs can go.
• Stay on the ball - remember that not everyone is comfortable around dogs, particularly young children.

Earlier this year we also introduced a restriction on professional dog walking businesses using the Village Hall grounds. This is to prevent large groups of dogs being exercised at once, which can make it difficult to maintain control in a busy community space.

Thank you to all the responsible dog owners who already help keep the Village Hall grounds clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Monday, June 1st, to kickstart the planning for our big 80th Birthday Celebrations.

The momentum is building, and we are thrilled to announce that full event details will be revealed on June 15th!

We have some truly wonderful and exciting ideas already taking shape, but now we need your help to capture the heart of our community.

We are on the hunt for photos of the village and village life.
We are looking to create a visual journey through the decades—ideally with examples from every one of our 80 years.

It’s a fantastic chance for our younger generation to look back at their elder relatives and see that they, too, were young and "foolish" once upon a time!

Please send your snapshots and memories to: chairman@hughendenvillagehall.co.uk

Yes… we know it’s a heatwave and Christmas feels a VERY long way away right now ☀️😅🎄

BUT behind the scenes at Hughenden Village Hall, plans are already starting for our Christmas Craft & Gift Fair 2026, coming this November!

After the huge success of last year’s fair, we’re excited to start planning another fantastic community event filled with festive stalls, seasonal treats, gifts, fun and plenty of Christmas cheer ✨

It may be far too hot for mince pies at the moment, but we’re excited already — and we hope you will be too!

More details will be coming over the next few months, so for now… watch this space 👀🎅
